The Unnecessary Salvation of Mary McDaniel  and The Second Horseman are two short-film scripts written by Herman that have been filmed in Los Angeles.  He is currently writing a feature film.


Herman’s 93 minute drama, Fading Light, was chosen by the FringeNYC committee to be part of the 2015 New York International Fringe Festival and was performed in New York City August of 2015 with Anne Howard, JD Lynch, Len Rella and Joan Porter in the cast.The Blank Theatre in Hollywood first chose Fading Light  to be part of their staged reading series. The reading was performed Oct 27, 2014, with this cast: Jill Andre, Paul Hodge, Clifford Morts and Mackenzie Phillips. It was directed by Jack Laufer.

Stand Up for a Child: The CASA Project, is a 22 minute video, with the script adapted by Herman Johansen and Sandra Fenichel Asher, from the stage play of the same name by Sandra Fenichel Asher.

 Sweet Metigoshe, a play about a young man growing up on the Canadian / US border in the Vietnam era, was adapted by Herman, based on the stories of David Hasselfield, and was produced at the Black Hills Playhouse.
Music by David Hasselfield. The play incorporates jazz music and modern dance in a coming of age story that is at once universal and unique.  

Herman has written a number of articles over the years for news publications such as The Springfield (MO) News-Leader, The Springfield Business Journal, The Platte County Citizen and others.  

Many years ago, he published two poems: Junior’s Gone to College and On Stars and Other Things.
