Herman’s 60-minute television pilot, Man on the Roof: Orphans was selected as a Top 20 Finalist (from over 2,000 submissions) in the Los Angeles International Screenwriting Contest. He continues to develop the pilot and show bible.

The Unnecessary Salvation of Mary McDaniel won three ‘best short film’ awards: Roma Short Film Festival, Monthly Indie Shorts and Anatolian Short Film Festival.  Actress Jenney McAfee was nominated for Best Actress at the Glendale (CA) International Film Festival and won the Best Actress award at Monthly Indie Shorts.

Fading Light is a 90-minute drama, first staged at the New York Int’l Fringe Festival in 2015. 

Stand Up for a Child: The CASA Project, is a 22 minute video, with the script adapted by Herman Johansen and Sandra Fenichel Asher, from the stage play of the same name by Sandra Fenichel Asher.

Sweet Metigoshe, a play about a young man growing up on the Canadian / US border in the Vietnam era, was adapted by Herman from  the stories of David Hasselfield, and was produced at the Black Hills Playhouse.  Music by David Hasselfield. The play incorporates jazz music and modern dance in a coming of age story that is at once universal and unique.  

Herman has published a number of articles over the years in news publications such as The Springfield (MO) News-Leader, The Springfield Business Journal, The Platte County Citizen and others.  

Many years ago, he published two poems: Junior’s Gone to College and On Stars and Other Things.
